During this lively moderated conversation, Jerry will share stories from his journey as a writer and artist, discuss the inspiration behind his beloved characters, and offer insights into the worlds of publishing, creativity, diversity in literature, and the importance of making reading fun for young people. Known for his humor, honesty, and engaging storytelling, Jerry brings a unique perspective that resonates with readers of all ages.
Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Jerry during a book signing.

Story Lab Workshop
July 24th from 3-4pm
Danbury Library – Farioly Program Room
Through step-by-step instruction, participants will learn how to draw facial features, expressions, body language, and more as Jerry demonstrates how he creates his memorable characters. Beyond drawing, Jerry will also explore the art of storytelling, teaching aspiring creators how to develop characters with personality, purpose, and adventures of their own.
Jerry Craft is the New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of the graphic novels New Kid, Class Act, and School Trip. New Kid is the only book in history to win the John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature (2020); the Kirkus Prize for Young Readers’ Literature (2019), and the Coretta Scott King Author Award for the most outstanding work by an African American writer (2020). Jerry was born in Harlem and grew up in the Washington Heights section of New York City and now travels the world telling kids and their families about the importance of reading.
