Leprechaun Traps

Get ready for St. Patrick’s Day with a night of imagination and building! We’ll kick off the program with a reading of How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace, then kids will have two hours to design and create their very own leprechaun traps.

Using recycled materials like tissue boxes, egg cartons, paper towel tubes, and buttons, along with provided supplies such as hot glue, pipe cleaners, and more, participants can test their creativity and put their STEM skills to work as they engineer clever designs to outsmart a tricky leprechaun.

Leprechauns are said to come out the night before St. Patrick’s Day, so kids can take their traps home and see if they can catch one just in time for the holiday. Legend has it that if you catch a leprechaun, you’ll get his pot of gold – but even if he escapes, a leprechaun impressed by a clever trap may leave behind small trinkets as a reward for creativity.

Recycled materials will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their own clean recycled materials to make their trap extra unique!

This workshop is part of the Danbury Library’s Sustainable Living Initiative, showing how creative upcycling can be both fun and eco-friendly. Learn the techniques at the library, and take them with you to practice sustainable living for life.
