Spanish Harlem Murals & Mosaics: Telling the Story of a Community

Celebrate National Latino Heritage Month with a special presentation about the colorful murals and mosaics of Spanish Harlem, which tell us so much about the history, culture, and politics of this neighborhood and its residents.

Some murals and mosaics are dedicated to world-famous people such as Che Guevara and Celia Cruz and others honor accomplished citizens of Spanish Harlem, such as the writers Julia de Burgos and Nicholasa Mohr. Come and learn about this little known history of New York and the gifted artists, many of whom were commissioned by the City of New York to incorporate more public art into the community.
