Growing Up Brave on the Margins: Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Great Stories Club

As a part of the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Great Stories Club, “Growing Up Brave on the Margins,” you will read and discuss stories that explore questions of race, equity, identity, history, institutional change and social justice.

Participating teens and library staff will also take part in racial healing sessions, where they will discuss questions of race and identity.

Sessions will be:
11/7/2019. Racial Healing Session.
12/5/2019. The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas.
1/9/2020. X: A Novel, by Ilyashah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon.
2/6/2020. Shadowshaper, by Daniel Jose Older.
2/20/2020.The Sun is Also a Star, by Nicola Yoon.
3/5/2020. Racial Healing Session.

Students must attend all six sessions. Community leaders will co-facilitate sessions, and refreshments will be provided. Students will receive copies of all the books to keep at the end of the program.
