"Wild About Reading" Guidelines

For the Summer Reading Club 2007

Every club member is encouraged to have a Danbury Library Card. Grandparents may use their own library card to register their grandchildren who will be visiting Danbury during the summer.

Parents and caregivers register their children for the appropriate Reading Category.  Selection of the Category depends on what grade the student will be entering in the fall.

Read-To-Me Category [For preschool-aged children thru Grade 1]

Independent Reader Category [For children entering Grades 2 thru 5]

“Cagey Readers’ Club” Teen Category [for children entering Grades 6 thru 8]

A Reading Log will be given to each person who registers for the Reading Club for at-home record keeping.  Participants should record their reading activity and bring their logs to the library so his/her progress can be recorded.

Rewards and Banana Bucks will be given to members as incentives to continue reading in all categories. For the “Read-To-Me” Category and the “Independent Reader” Category, Banana Bucks will be given once a week when club members come into the library to report on the books they’ve read or had read to them.

Reading Club members can spend their Banana Bucks immediately at our Monkey Mall, or they can save their weekly Banana Bucks to purchase something special. Teens in the Cagey Readers’ Club will receive weekly Banana Bucks, a coupon for the weekly and grand prize drawings, and a chance to compete for the Top Reader prize at the end of the program.

While participating in the Summer Reading Program is purely for fun, participants are encouraged to read on or above their reading level.  For special cases, exceptions will be made.  Our staff will be happy to assist you with your book selections.
