Get Wrapped Up in Reading
Summer Reading Club

Monday, June 19 - Saturday, August 12

Reading Club Overview
All Danbury children in pre-K through Grade 8 are invited to register for the 2006 “Get Wrapped Up in Reading” Royal Reading Club.  The Summer Reading Club is an important part of the Danbury Library’s Summer Program and the Library’s way of helping your child maintain his/her reading level during their summer vacation. Reading Club members are encouraged to have fun with our daily activities, meet new friends and to read as many books of their choosing as they want.  Kids are encouraged to enjoy reading at the library, at home, or while traveling on vacation with family.

Reading Club Guidelines

  • Every club member is encouraged to have a Danbury Library Card.  Grandparents may use their own library card to register their grandchildren, if children will be visiting during the summer.
  • Children are registered in the appropriate reading category by the grade the child will be entering in the fall.  Categories are:

  • “Royal Scribes”:  Pre-schoolers and children entering Grade 1
  • “Pharaoh’s Noble Court”:  Children entering Grades 2 - 5
  • “Get Wrapped Up In Reading”: Teens entering Grades 6 - 8
  • Each Club member will receive a Reading Log to record each book title and author of the book(s) they read (or have read to them).  Children should bring their logs to the library each week to receive their reading rewards.
  • Rewards and “Mummy Money” will be given to Club members as incentives to continue reading.  For the “Royal Scribes” and the “Pharaoh’s Noble Court” categories, “Mummy Money” will be given once a week when club members come to the library with their reading log to report.  In addition to the money, each week the Club member comes in to report, they will receive a coupon to enter a weekly drawing for really cool prizes.  At the end of the program, all Club members will have a chance to win a larger prize in our final drawing on Monday, August 14.  For the teen category, kids will have an opportunity to enter weekly drawings, including a chance for the Grand Prize at the end of the program (please pick up a separate teen summer flier at the Junior Services Desk for details.)
  • While participating in the Club is purely for fun, participants are encouraged to read on or above their reading level.  For special cases, exceptions will be made.  Our staff will be happy to assist you with your book selections. Happy Reading!
