Governor Malloy’s “Executive Order Resource Allocation Plan Fiscal Year 2018” will go into effect on July 1, 2017. Under this plan, the Connecticut State Library will see a significant reduction to an already bare-bones budget.
State funding will be eliminated for the Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) which provides our library and other Connecticut libraries with discounted rates for technology and services.
These cuts will also affect our interlibrary loan services which allows us to request materials from other Connecticut libraries. It will eliminate access to research databases, national newspapers, genealogical research materials, and homework resources for students. It will also reduce incentives for libraries to allow Connecticut residents to access any Connecticut library.
This plan will remain in effect until the general assembly adopts and the governor signs either an interim or a biennium budget.
If you value the services offered by Connecticut libraries, the time to call, write, or meet with your legislators is NOW.
